Yesterday‘s plan to visit and hike around Penang National Park didn’t quite work out. Admittedly, I started with good intentions and even took the bus to the entrance. But once I got there, I just didn’t feel like hiking, so I turned around and went back to the hostel.
Instead, I did the complete opposite. I went to a movie theatre and bought enough popcorn and drinks to get me through Toy Story 3. I know it isn’t the most exciting thing for a traveller, but I’d partied a bit too much the nights before. Still, shoutout to the movie — I actually really liked it, haha. Smart Yentl went to bed early yesterday to make sure he could get to Penang National Park today before heading to his next destination.
The Penang National Park
As guilty as I felt for turning around yesterday, I couldn’t have done it better today. I walked every track you can do in Penang National Park. Eventually, I reached the remote beaches and stumbled upon a turtle sanctuary. The people there were incredibly friendly, and besides turtles, they shared lots of information about the park and its wildlife. At least when I finally visited the National Park, I did it properly — not halfway.
It was my last night in Penang, and after visiting the park, I went out again. I wasn’t worried about leaving early the next morning. Looking at my upcoming destinations, this will be the last one for a while, so I wanted to make it a big one. Some of my friends had already left, but a backpacker never needs long to meet new people. I honestly can’t tell you what time it was or how many clubs and bars we ended up in, but one thing’s for sure — I had a great night after a great day.
