Discovering Javanese Arts and culture | Yogyakarta | Vlog 136

I have spent the last few days seeing as much around Yogyakarta as possible. I went to Mount Merapi and the temples in the north and northwest. In addition, I had plenty of views and waterfalls on my road trip to the south. My trips were fantastic, and so were the people that joined me on some of them. I have already extended my stay here to see and do everything I want.

Today, I’m staying closer to home and will take the time to explore Yogyakarta. A few posts ago, I said that this city is famous for classical Javanese fine arts and culture, but I have yet to see much of it. Things are about to change because my itinerary for today is full!

Yogjakarta Day:

I started my Yogyakarta day by visiting fine arts workshops, galleries, and shops. I had to select the footage for the video, as I couldn’t film most of them. But, from there, the list goes on. I should start writing travel guides, as I use them myself, but many things could be improved. I would be good at them, and it is certainly something I will think about in the future! So many things to think about, but it will be for Melbourne when my life is a bit less wild again. I’m too much in a travel mood and already have a day planned to catch up with some paperwork.

My afternoon highlights were the Taman Sari, a historical bathing complex, the palace of Yogyakarta and the Sumur Gumuling, an underground mosque! Next on my list was the Jalan Malioboro, a street full of shops and restaurants. I also booked something here for tomorrow, so make sure to come back and look at that. However, we also returned for dinner following our trip to the Warungboto site, a former palace built for the royal family!
