Sunrise, sandstorm and walking the edges of the active volcano Mt. Bromo | Vlog 141

With only a couple of days and destinations left, my Java trip is coming to an end. I’m still in Indonesia, but I’m switching to the island of Bali. It has been an incredible journey across Java, and it overruled all my expectations. Moreover, I came here because I found an Indonesian banknote and needed time to process my Australian visa. I had no clue what to expect, but we are about halfway, and it has been amazing so far. Today, we will do one of my last highlights. Yesterday, I already said that we were going to the mountains. We arrived late in the evening, and our homestay and its shower were cold. But that’s not why we are here. We are here to visit Mount Bromo!

Mount Bromo:

We woke up at about 3.30 AM to leave the homestay at 4 AM. Besides waking up early, sunrises are one of my favourite things to do while travelling. Today, we are doing a sunrise over Mount Bromo, but it is a two-hour climb to get to the viewpoint. It was worth the journey, and once the sun gave us enough light, we climbed higher for breakfast. Climbing up for three hours also meant climbing down, and by the time we got back, it was already noon.

We had lunch and then walked to the active volcano of Mount Bromo itself. The walk was long, and we wondered how we would get to our next destination. We hadn’t planned anything but did want to leave today. We got to Mount Bromo, and to our amazement, we could walk along the edges of the active volcano. It was pretty dangerous, but it makes for some good video shots! On our way back to the town, we got treated to a sandstorm. Not that we bothered. Our day had been outstanding, and the only thing we had to do now figured out how to get to our next destination.

I sometimes like to say that travels provide for themself and if you have read my blogs and vlogs over the last few months, I think I have proved that point before. We returned to the town, and some other tourists hired a private bus. If we had been 1 minute later, we would have missed them, but they offered us to share in the costs when we arrived. Once again, the travels provided for themself. What a day to be alive!
