My road trip brought me to an authentic Tomok Village | Samosir | Vlog 154

I’ve been exploring my surroundings here in Samosir, the island in the middle of Lake Toba, for the past two days, by foot. On the first day, I went to Tomok, just outside Tuk-Tuk. Afterwards, I went exploring Tuk-Tuk itself. I’ve learned much about the Batak houses and culture.

Unfortunately, I have yet to find an authentic Batak village. Most towns were empty and turned into museums for tourists. So, for the first time since my accident in Banyuwangi, I hired a motorbike to make a road trip on Samosir. Initially, I was a bit insecure, but once I did a couple of kilometres, it felt all right again. Good, because for the sights on my road trip on Samosir, I have to go to the other side of the island first.

Road Trip on Samosir

I was lucky, as finding some authentic Batak villages didn’t take long. The deeper I went on my road trip, the more unique they became. I am super happy myself, as at first, I couldn’t believe people still live in these fantastic houses; this way, I could see it with my own eyes.

Although I was a little naive, I should have known they all had big television inside and antennas on the outside. It’s modern living in a historic house. It’s pretty cool to come across while travelling the world.

My road trip on Samosir brought me to the other side of the island because between the volcanic mountains, there lies a Lake. Lake Sidihone is a lake on a lake sitting at an altitude of 1300 metres. The place is surrounded by farmland, buffalos, and cows that drink from the lake. The views here are amazing. But, by the time I got there, it was pretty late. I had underestimated the time of driving.

Apart from some lookouts, I went to some waterfalls on the way back. I had so much more waterfalls on my itinerary, and I might need to extend my road trip to Samisor tomorrow. There are so many other things I want to see as well. This place is just amazing.
