My adventures on the Indonesian island of Java are at their peak! After leaving the north coast in Jakarta and travelling across the island through Bogor and Bandung, I arrived at the south coast! Welcome to Pangandaran! This place is famous for its beautiful surf beaches and, unfortunately, for bearing the scars of a devastating 2006 earthquake and tsunami. You wouldn’t be able to tell, though..
In recent years, Pangandaran has been completely rebuilt and is now thrivinag gain! It is one of Java’s best-kept secrets for international tourists. Most people go to Yogyakarta, and the locals like to keep it that way. Why am I in Pangandaran? There is a little piece of rainforest that I would like to explore. How will I manage to do that? I have no idea yet, but I will find out today!
Arriving in Pangandaran:
I got to Pangandaran early in the morning. The last time I took a bus, we waited for hours to be full enough to leave. This time, I opted for the rush hour, and to my surprise, we departed shortly after I boarded. However, saying I arrived early, which is only partially true. I got off the bus too early. So, I walked for a while to get to my homestay with my backpack.
Once I had dropped my backpack, the exploring could start. Planning my rainforest trip could wait for when it’s dark. Visiting a famous place for its surf beach only asks for one thing. Today I’ll be wandering around the south coast beaches of Java!
Back in my homestay, the planning for my rainforest trip could start. I was lucky because two girls had arrived when I returned. Their main goal for Pangandaran was to see that same little piece of rainforest. Three tourists with a plan and, in addition, a combined budget can make many things happen.
Tomorrow, we are going on a unique trip to the rainforest in Pangandaran. None of this would have been possible without the incredible hospitality of our homestay! Indonesia, you rock!
