It’s nearly coming to the end of my short stay here in Malang. Tonight, I’m meeting up again with a friend from Yogyakarta, and we are heading off to the mountains. What precisely we will see will be for tomorrow’s post, but it promises to be something great.
On the other hand, surely I couldn’t leave without seeing Malang itself. Yesterday I arrived pretty late on the train and had only time to go and see the blue village. The other side of the street, divided by a passenger bridge, is the Kampung Warna Warni Jodipan. This suburb has the same concept as the blue village; the town is painted in all rainbow colours. In addition, there are many colourful attributes, making it something I had to go to and check out in the morning!
Malang
The afternoon was for some general sightseeing. I wish I could spend another day here in Malang, but the mountains are calling. Besides, I’m only here to see the two coloured towns because it is easy to get to my next destination. But, as I said, I like these small, fewer tourist towns. Some of the afternoon’s highlights were the Malang Jami Grand Mosque, which is famous for its wooden roof, and the Alun-Alun Tugu Malang, a lovely park with fountains in the city centre.
Afterwards, it was time to get back to the hostel, pack my bags and eat something. We will arrive late, and our trip tomorrow starts early in the morning. It is going to be a long ride into the mountains.
On our way to our transport, which was first a big bus, then a small bus and a taxi to end with, we had a quick stop at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. It is impressive to see how everybody lives in peace and harmony! When it comes to Indonesia, they are doing pretty well being multicultural.
