I don’t understand why this place is under-visited! | Malang | Vlog 140

My short stay in Malang is coming to an end. Tonight, I’m meeting up with a friend from Yogyakarta, and we’re heading off to the mountains. What we’ll see will be revealed in tomorrow’s post, but it promises to be something great.

However, I couldn’t leave without seeing Malang itself. Yesterday I arrived quite late on the train and only had time to visit the blue village. Just across the street, divided by a pedestrian bridge, is Kampung Warna Warni Jodipan. This colorful suburb follows the same concept as the blue village—the entire area is painted in vibrant rainbow colors. With its many colorful decorations, it was definitely something I had to explore this morning!

The afternoon was dedicated to general sightseeing. I wish I could have spent another day in Malang, but the mountains are calling. Besides, I’m primarily here to see the two colorful villages since they’re conveniently located on the way to my next destination. As I mentioned, I really enjoy these smaller, less touristy towns. The afternoon’s highlights included the Malang Jami Grand Mosque, renowned for its wooden roof, and Alun-Alun Tugu Malang, a lovely park with fountains in the city center.

Afterwards, it was time to return to the hostel, pack my bags, and grab something to eat. We’ll be arriving late, and our trip tomorrow starts early in the morning. It’s going to be a long journey into the mountains.

On our way to our transport—which consisted of a large bus, followed by a smaller bus, and finally a taxi—we made a brief stop at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. It’s truly impressive to see how everyone lives together in peace and harmony! When it comes to Indonesia, they’re doing remarkably well in embracing multiculturalism.
