This is how I slept in a hut in the middle of the rainforest | Gunung Leuser | Vlog 163

I’m excited today as it’s day one of my rainforest trek in Bukit Lawang. I chose to do a personalized tour as I was not too fond of the itineraries of the regular guided tours. Moreover, those tours go up the hills surrounding Bukit Lawang and come back, where we are going pretty far in. Let the search for wild Orangutangs begin. If we are lucky, we might even see elephants.

The day started with a long hike to get deep enough into the rainforest to see them. We were halfway through our track by lunchtime and lucky enough to see an Orangutang going through the trees.

We saw baby Orangutangs;

That was nothing compared to being deep into the forest. We were fortunate enough to see baby Orangutangs and even had one climbing close past us. I made sure to put some good footage in the video below:

We had to cross the big river to camp, and our sleeping place surprised me. The base was great; it had actual huts to sleep in and was close to a waterfall for a shower. I was utterly enjoying the lifestyle. Doing this trek is fantastic and is a unique experience of my travels so far.

Our tour guide advised us to knot all our belongings to the trees as the monkeys stole them. Once they take it into the forest, you never see it again! Rainforest or not, our guide brought wine to enjoy around the campfire. The rest of the evening was relaxing, cooking on a wood stove, and telling some stories until it was time to go to bed.
