I arrived in Surfers Paradise on Australia‘s Gold Coast three days ago. It’s not that I did much that first day after arriving here, but it has been different for the last two days. I got out to explore the area deeper. And, as I usually do on the first days, I wandered around. Firstly, I checked out some of the beaches and the city centre and afterwards walked some hiking trails.
Overall, I’m happy to be here and feel better again than in Brisbane. It’s much smaller here, which helps me find a better atmosphere for myself and the people surrounding me. Being alone in the big cities is different than in the smaller settlements. People, in general, outside of the towns are less busy and more eager to start a conversation or hang out with you.
Gold Coast
The Gold Coast is, besides being a place to retire for many people, also a significant tourist destination. With about 700,000 inhabitants, it is the sixth-largest city in Australia and the largest non-capital city. It’s generally known for its sunny and subtropical climate with many surfing beaches. Besides, a lot of Australia’s entertainment is based around here. It’s full of theme parks, but television studios and radio stations are also here. It’s a great place to hang around as it has a very relaxed atmosphere.
For me, the Gold Coast also means the end of my adventures in Queensland. My next destination is in New South Wales, and I cannot wait for it. I will wait to give the details as I still have another day over here, but it’s something that I’ve been looking forward to for a while.
In Asia, I used to meet with people I’ve met before all the time if we happened to be in the same areas. Finally, the same thing is now happening in Australia. Just like it did in Asia, my Australian adventures are slowly falling into place. Tomorrow and in a few days, I’ll be meeting up with some of the people I came across before. So exciting; it feels like building my small travel community!
