Walking the Great Ocean Walk | Cape Otway to Aire River | Vlog 4

We didn’t sleep in today because we spent the night at the Cape Otway station and were eager to explore it. The morning set the tone for an amazing day — the sun was shining, a bit of rain came and went, but we didn’t mind at all. We were just so happy to be on this adventure. Our bodies felt less sore too, as we had started to adjust to this walking lifestyle.

We visited the small museum, climbed up the lighthouse for the stunning views, and treated ourselves to coffee and cake in the cosy shop. It was also the perfect time to recharge our camera batteries so we could keep sharing these blogs and vlogs! What had started as a challenging hike was turning into a wonderfully relaxed trip. Next stop: Aire River.

The 10 km walk from Cape Otway to Aire River was absolutely fantastic. For most of the route, we followed the ocean, enjoying one breathtaking view after another. The weather was on our side, and our backpacks finally felt comfortable. We kept telling each other how great it was to be doing this walk — taking in the scenery and enjoying each moment fully. Doing the same trip by car would be easier, sure, but it would never give us the same feeling we had today. It was simply a perfect day.

As we approached Aire River, the final stretch went downhill, and we could see the campsite in the distance. It looked beautiful from afar and even better up close. It’s such a lovely place to camp, unwind, and end a great day. A big shoutout to Victoria Parks—these campsites are always clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully laid out. Aire River is also popular with non–Great Ocean Walk hikers, but they make sure we have our own hiking area, so we’re not disturbed by car campers.
