Walking the Great Ocean Walk | Aire River to Johanna Beach | Vlog 5

We are halfway through the Great Ocean Walk, and today, the trail brings us from Aire River to Johanna Beach. The campsite views at Johanna Beach are the favourite of most hikers who complete this trail, so we look forward to getting there. But first, a 14 km section, one of the more challenging days of the entire route. We have to work hard for our reward, but we are ready!

We already planned our day yesterday evening and woke up within our designated time frame this morning. After having breakfast in the tent, we took some time to relax beside the river. It was a great morning, and we saw koalas everywhere. Our bodies wholly adjusted to the trail, and with lots of positive energy, we left for another day of walking.

The trail was full of surprises today. We had to go uphill and downhill the whole time, which after a while, we could feel in our legs. But then, the views were just fantastic every time we got to the top of the hill. It made it worth the effort! About halfway, we ran into Claire. She is a backpacker from the United States doing the walk herself. We chatted on the beach and then decided to walk to Johanna Beach altogether! It was nice to have company, and we went looking for an Echidna together.

Today, we walked along the coastline for the entire trail, from Aire River to Johanna Beach. Eventually, we made it to Johanna Beach, and the views were impressive. Tonight, we are sleeping on top of a cliff with beach views as far as we can see. It was a great evening, and the three of us told stories until it was too cold to sit outside! This is why we started this walk in the first place, and it made us very happy.
