Another travel video from Tasmania lands on the site! Thrilled to share my Port Arthur after-movie — split into two gripping chapters matching my itinerary: wild coastal hiking along the Three Capes Track, then haunting convict history exploration.
One of my final South Coast Tasmania adventures, packed with jaw-dropping cliffs and eerie heritage. One last sea-level finale before heading north.
Chapter 1: Three Capes Wilderness
The Triabunna bus from Maria Island dropped me right at the edge of Tasman National Park. From there, I hitchhiked deeper into the peninsula to reach Fortescue Bay campsite, where I spent my first night. The next morning I hiked up to Bare Knoll on the Three Capes Track and pitched my tent with the darkening sea stretching out below.
Day 2 was the Cape Pillar ascent and Arthur’s Peak — incredible panoramic views across to Tasman Island, wind rushing past those sheer cliff drops. Day 3 took me to Cape Hauy and the iconic Blade lookout, with cliffs plunging down to crashing waves below. I made it back to Fortescue Bay that evening, completely exhausted, before one final night there and heading out to Cape Raoul the next morning for the peninsula’s last sweep.
Chapter 2: Convict Ghosts
After days of coastal hiking, I spent two days exploring Port Arthur’s haunting historical sites — wandering through the penitentiary ruins, the separate prison cells, and the churchyard. There’s a heavy silence there now where chains once rattled, the weight of all those isolation stories hanging in the sea mist rolling in off the bay.
Sea Finale
Before heading back to Hobart, I took a boat trip circling the cliffs — seeing Tasman Island, Maatsuyker lighthouse in the distance, and all the capes from a water perspective. It made the perfect wilderness send-off from Tasmania’s south coast.
