I am becoming a diver on the Great Barrier Reef | Cairns | Vlog 63 & 64

Some of our followers will remember how I went snorkelling all the time on the Australian West coast. I must have said it back then, but I grew an interest in getting diving lessons. Especially now that I am in Cairns, I’m super close to the Great Barrier Reef. So, doing diving lessons would be the most incredible way to see the reef!

Some people here are doing diving initiations, but if I do something, I want to do it right from the start, and I’m starting an open-water course tomorrow! I can’t wait! No more partying for me, and back to school to learn a new skill! Let’s go and check out the Great Barrier Reef in the best possible way!

During the day, I’ve been exploring the rainforests and the botanical gardens. My diving lessons start early in the morning, giving me time to see a little of the surroundings in the afternoon.

Also, now that I have made friends in the hostel, I can just come home and drink with them before going to bed. Coming home means hearing many diving stories, and it’s impressive; it puts me entirely in the diving mood! In saying that, many people here are doing diving courses too. Not to mention the number of people trying to become divemasters.

Another planning mistake?

Another thing I’ve learned by now is that it is the wet season in Cairns. I’m not saying that the weather is terrible. It’s still 25 degrees Celsius, and sometimes some rain. It reminds me of how I miss out on many facts. The opposite travel direction, the last-minute decisions and, again, the wrong season!

It’s funny, and I’m curious how it will evolve in the following months! In the end, I just started about two months ago, and I’m still progressing toward becoming a professional traveller! Nothing I’m annoyed about; the other people might be better at planning.
