Soon after we went to sleep yesterday evening, it started to rain. It rained the entire night. We even woke up several times because of the sound it made in the tent. It was sad; we had been so lucky with the weather and weren’t looking forward to walking the 14km to Ryans Den in the rain.
When we woke up this morning, there was this lovely surprise. The sun was shining, and the heat in the tent woke us up. It was probably my first time on the trail that it wasn’t cold in the tent. My sleeping bag needed to be warmer for this hike. I’ll have to invest in a new one soon, especially since I want to do some walks in Tasmania later in my travels.
The Great Ocean Walk Family:
Since Claire got added to the family yesterday (yes, the hiking family of two, haha), it will be the three of us today. Before getting on the trail again, we had to wait for the tents to dry. The sun was shining, so it didn’t matter today. Also, those views made it very enjoyable to sit and wait. Nothing matters today; it will be a lovely day of walking and relaxing.
Once we started walking, we saw some beautiful Victorian countryside. It was mostly uphill, but we took it as it came. It was day six, our backpacks were getting lighter, our bodies adjusted, and it was the best weather on this trail; nothing could stop us from going to Ryans’ Den.
The day even got better somewhere halfway. People living close to the path put some bits and bobs to exchange next to the road. In hiker’s terms, it’s called trail magic, and I have to admit, I didn’t expect it at all on the Great Ocean Walk, so that was a great surprise. Afterwards, when we got to a beach section, we had a shower in a river. It was cold, but it was about time we had one; it was day six, haha!
