Walking the Great Ocean Walk | Ryans Den to Devil’s Kitchen | Vlog 7

We were most excited about getting to Cape Otway when we planned the Great Ocean Walk. I love lighthouses, and it seemed like the perfect day to get a little break from walking. It was my favourite day on this trip, but that changed today.

The 13 km walk from Ryans Den to Devil’s Kitchen was exceptional. Not that the views were better than the other days. It was the quintessential walking day; this is how you want your walk to be when you plan it. The weather was great, and our spirits were at an all-time high. We couldn’t wait to get out of the tent and start the day. It felt right, and we are getting so close to the end now. There is no doubt that we will finish the Great Ocean Walk. But first, Devil’s Kitchen!

The day started a bit windy, but soon it turned into the perfect day – the wind dropped out, the sun came out, and there was no grey cloud in sight. We had extra company at lunch as we ran into a family doing the walk. The dad too, but his backpack was heavier. That’s so cool; the kids loved it. We walked, laughed, enjoyed the weather, and enjoyed each other’s company! It was, as I said before, the quintessential walking day.

The last section of Devil’s Kitchen was along the beach. We walked next to it for seven days, so it felt great. We couldn’t let this opportunity slide, and instead of walking to the campsite to relax, we rested on the beach for hours. It was so wonderful to swim in the ocean and to lay on the beach while reading a book. There’s only one more day to go after this! It’s going to be such an achievement to finish the walk. It’s the journey that got us there; being here was everything.
