I love my road trip | Bonniefield to Sandy Gully | Vlog 46

I woke up in the morning with a policeman knocking on the window of my car. That was a bad thing because I knew people were not supposed to camp at the five-mile beach; there was a large sign on the way here saying that it was a no-camp zone. I got away with it easier than expected.

In my crappiest English, I explained how I was a tourist that only just gotten into Australia. It wasn’t the best start to my day, but my night was great. Today we are off for some more road-tripping. My next destination is Geraldton. Next time, I’ll remember that people check for wild campers. Oh, they come early enough, too early for me.

Geraldton

The first stop today was Geraldton. Of course, a place famous for its beautiful coastline at the esplanade (this is Australia, I didn’t expect anything else) and the Francis Xavier Cathedral. A Roman Catholic cathedral, completed in 1918. John Hawes is one of Priest and Architect’s largest and most imposing works.

Later, I also went to the HMAS Sydney II memorial. The memorial is for the ship involved in a fight with a German cruiser, the Kormoran, in 1941. Both vessels sunk during this battle. I tried to find much information about the Kormoran, but all 645 lives were lost for the Sydney II. Both shipwrecks have been missing since then, and they only discovered the Sydney II in 2008.

I am finishing off the day at the Point Moore Lighthouse. There is something special about lighthouses, and I like to visit them. Please don’t ask me why. I don’t know, but I like them, and this one was great too. The next stop for tomorrow is Sandy Gully. A little bit spooked by the policeman this morning, I booked myself a campsite this time. Luckily for me, there were no other people at the camp.
