This is Australia’s official capital city! | Canberra | Vlog 113

Three days to see a capital city isn’t that much, so my itinerary is busy. I’m getting used to making these itineraries because they suit me more and more. I’ve learned over time that it’s better to plan some things outdoors after I’ve spent a day indoors. Today isn’t any different, and after the National Museum and the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia yesterday, I started today with the Botanical Gardens. Often referred to as the best ones in Australia, I went there early morning. It was a great choice as the morning mist was still hanging there, making it a little magical.

Australia’s Capital City

In the distance, I could see the Telstra tower. I read online that you can visit it to look out over Canberra. Because Canberra was a made-up capital city (Australia, couldn’t agree over, or Melbourne or Sydney as a capital city, so decided to build one in between them) and therefore planned out entirely before making it, the infrastructure and street system is well designed.

The tower wasn’t on my itinerary, but seeing it in the distance, I thought it would be worth the trip. I ended up with a long walk from the Botanical Gardens, but the views are pretty impressive! It is worth looking into the design of Canberra, as it even looks well organised on a map! Afterwards, I went back to the Botanical Gardens on my way to my last activity.

For the last activity of today, I wanted to go and see the Australian war Memorial. They have them in every city in Australia, so I couldn’t miss the one in their capital city. I expected it to be smaller. The whole Anzac Parade was full of small memorials, and that was before I got to the War memorial itself!

Once I got there, I thought, all right, everything is done for today. But then, I discovered a whole underground War Museum. It was sad that I didn’t have much time to see it, but I spent it there until closing. Walking out of the museum, I saw an incredible sunset. Tomorrow, we will check out the other side of the river. I can’t wait!
