Life-changing event: I bought hiking poles | Rockhampton | Vlog 82

I’ve said it earlier, and I’m sure that if you follow these daily series, you must also have seen it. More than ever before, I’m going hiking. It makes sense while travelling because it’s a great way to explore new areas. Besides, it’s also the cheapest option. It’s a significant activity in my travels now, as almost everywhere I go, I end up hiking! It’s good because I do like it! Today, I took it a step further and bought myself a pair of hiking poles. I got a hike planned that is rated extra hard, and I thought, if not now, then probably never.

Hiking in Rockhampton

It’s day two in Rockhampton, and I’ve planned a 24km hike to explore the area. It will be my first hike on hiking poles; I’ve never used them. It was an adjustment, but they made my day so much easier. Hiking poles are way more expensive than I initially thought. But that’s the way with pretty much all outdoor quality gear! I’m happy that I bought them, they served me well on my first day, and I’m sure this will be the start of even more hikes!

It was a long day, and I walked all the time or at least enjoyed the views during the hike. By the time I got back to the hostel, I was utterly exhausted. Nothing much was on at night, and I took the time to rest. This a promising sign, and I’m sure it will help me sleep tonight.

Also, the hostel is pretty empty, and I might be lucky to have the dorm room for myself tonight. Yes, I’m almost three months in, and most of the time (pretty much all the time, except for my west coast adventure), I’ve been sleeping in bunk beds. What a way for a 25-year-old to enjoy life. I love it!
