My instructor warned me yesterday, but I was still disappointed. We would dive today at one of the best diving spots in Australia. Unfortunately, the weather was not allowing us to do it. Firstly, the waves were too high to get there safely, and secondly, underwater tides are too strong today. The SS Yongala, a shipwreck from 1911, lays 33 metres below the surface and will be for another time.
I was looking forward to this, but it is nothing that we can control. Luckily, that didn’t mean we were cancelling the diving trip. The diving instructor asked me if I could do it another day, but that meant I had to stay way longer on Magnetic Island. I wouldn’t mind, but it would be a waste of my 45-day bus pass.
It wasn’t too bad in the end. Instead of diving on the SS Yongala, we went diving in caves instead. I wasn’t allowed to film inside the caves. My instructor asked me to focus on diving itself as it can be pretty dangerous. But, once outside the caves, I was allowed to film again.
However, still great, the footage in today’s video differs from the inside of the caves. You should come and dive with me to check it out together! We also saw plenty of sharks, and the boat trip was a fantastic experience.
I had a great day, but I still wished we could make it to the SS Yongala wreck. Anyway, besides it being a long day, I couldn’t resist a night swim.
In the evening, I took things easier. Magnetic Island has been treating me well. It’s only my third destination after Cairns and Townsville, and I love my trip. I’ll have to check my booking and start planning my next town! 🙂
