Festival of King Island (FOKI) – lineup announced!

UPDATE: THE 2022 FESTIVAL OF KING ISLAND IS CANCELLED!

I am excited to announce that Yentl as Anything will perform at the 2022 Festival of King Island! After last year’s cancellation, the island’s annual festival, also known as FOKI, is back on! Scheduled for Friday the 28th and Saturday the 29th of January, this is a weekend not to miss! With extraordinary acts, food, people and (hopefully) good weather, there is no excuse for not having a fabulous time! All ages are welcome, and there are activities for everyone.

Playing at the festival is another significant step for the band, as it will be our first outdoor festival! With the continual support of the King Island community, we are excited to perform on the biggest stage on the island! We are all super stoked and thrilled about it.

History of the Festival of King Island

The Festival of King Island has been running since 2015. It is held over the last weekend of January into early February. The origins of this festival come from the help of Aussie artist Kim Churchill. After visiting the island in 2012 (after the closure of the 2nd most significant employer, the abattoirs), he wanted to help the island rebuild economically. He reached out through the help of Facebook, and on the second visit in 2013, the Festival of King Island was born.

With the fantastic volunteers’ continual support, the event has grown significantly since then. The main stage was a small container with very minimal gear and six lights when it started. Now it has an actual stage with professional equipment! None of this would have been possible, though, without the drive of one Kim George. Now a fellow Belgian, he flies back to King Island yearly just for the festival! Not only him, as many of the other volunteers had moved off the island and would come down each year for it!

Be sure to check out the island while you are there! It is a fantastic community event that I encourage everyone to attend. If you need help with any ideas, check out my travel guides for King Island.
