My first two days in Cairns were pretty wild. Most backpackers travelling along the east coast of Australia start their trip in Sydney and end in Cairns. So before going home or moving further after their Australian adventures, people come here to party for a whole week (or more). Therefore, Cairns is a massive party city. There are just parties everywhere and on every day of the week.
That’s how it works for most people, but that’s not how I am doing it. For one or the other reason, I always tend to do things differently. My trip goes the opposite way. At least, as far as I know, I’m still making plans.
First days in Cairns
The first days in Cairns were wild but also pretty easy during the day. I explored the city of Cairns and its coastline. I went for some lovely walks and just met some new people everywhere I went.
Also, the hostel I’m sleeping in is excellent, which makes things a lot easier. The night is for staying out until late, and the morning is for sleeping. Living the dream, that’s for sure! I also learned that, along the east coast, there is a choice between sleep hostels and party hostels. I got advice from other backpackers to always check the descriptions.
On the other hand, I’m not too worried. I like parties, but I’m not a party animal. After a couple of nights of going out, I also have enough of it. If it was for partying, I didn’t have to leave Belgium.
I’m a world traveller, not a tourist or a party tourist! So I’m sure soon, we will be focussing on other things again! Have a beer and cheers!
