Okay, today is going to be different from my average travel days. I’m not going to any attraction, but I just wanted to do something random. After asking some local Melaka people, they told me about a massive depot for sand outside Melaka. It’s filled with sand, so much sand you would easily mistake it for dunes! I got inquisitive, so that’s what I am doing today, checking out what this is all about. It was hard to get there—a bus outside the city and a 2.5-hour walk from the bus stop. I am still trying to figure out why I went, but, speaking of wanting to have a spontaneous day, I got one!
It was great, and I spent a ridiculous amount of time there. I was enjoying my lucky day. If anyone had seen me, they would have easily mistaken me for a kid. I was running up and down the hills and sliding off them. Not just once, but for multiple and probably too many times. I don’t know how much I enjoyed this, but I needed some time. It’s been some hectic weeks with all the travelling and meeting people everywhere.
I found a Submarine:
Because the walk to the sand depot was boring, I decided to take another way back. I just walked along the shore to see where I would end up. And there it was; this random day turned into something more unexpected. In the middle of the dunes, there was a submarine. I had no idea, but I could walk in; it was a museum. I had never been inside a sub, which was a delightful surprise.
I got far from Melaka and was hours away from the bus stop I had arrived at. It was getting later, so I needed to return to my hostel. This day was one of a kind because it was also the first hitchhike on this trip and in Asia. I planned my next adventures in the evening and searched for hidden gems around Melaka. Today had brought me many crazy unexpected things. There was no submarine in the city, but I had a great stroll and found some non-touristic places and viewpoints. A good day, another good day!
