This day had everything I could wish for at the end of my first chapter of travelling. In about three days, I’ll be arriving in Melbourne to live and work for a while. That means my six-month journey is coming to an end. A new chapter of life is about to begin, but before that, Sarah and I made sure to enjoy the last few days to the fullest by booking a two-day jungle tour in Taman Negara.
The first day was phenomenal. We had an amazing group of people, and the rainforest was absolutely stunning. We spent the entire day hiking — and if there’s one way I love to explore, it’s on foot. Add the magic of trekking through a rainforest, and it’s twice the fun.
Taman Negara
We met at the river in the morning, where a boat took us to the registration office. There, we swapped our backpacks and made sure we had everything we needed for the two-day trek. After that, we boarded the boat again to reach the starting point of our journey. Our destination for the day was a cave deep in the jungle — our sleeping spot for the night. What followed was a great hike through forests, hills, and rivers in the heart of Taman Negara.
That night in the cave turned out to be unforgettable. As soon as we arrived, the whole group gathered to play card games. Add candlelight, laughter, and no phone reception, and you can probably imagine the atmosphere.
We slept in an open cave, which made things even more exciting — plenty of wildlife came by to try and steal some food, adding a touch of adventure to the night. Going to sleep felt unusual, knowing that snakes and wild animals were nearby on the ground and bats were flying overhead. What an incredible experience and what a night! I absolutely loved it.
