Penang, so far, has not yet let me go to bed very early. I’m in a bit of a party mood at the moment. There are plenty of fun people around, and I can’t resist when they ask me to hang out. The thought of this trip ending makes me want to enjoy it just a little more.
Australia won’t be nearly as cheap as Malaysia, so it’s better to indulge here than in about ten days when I arrive in Melbourne. I’ll have little money left, but that’s a problem for later. My flight is booked, and my visa is approved. What’s the worst that can happen? There’s always a home in Belgium if it doesn’t work out.
The Penang National Park, or not?
It was one of the first times drinking affected a day of travelling in the last six months. Still, I started the day well. Full of energy, I left the hostel in the morning, found a great place for breakfast, and hopped on the bus. The plan was to explore Penang National Park. I got to the entrance, spent some time on the beaches, and thought, no, this just isn’t happening.
I couldn’t be bothered and took the bus back to my hostel to draw up a new plan for the day. My solution? I went to a movie theater to watch Toy Story 3 — a much better choice for today, loaded with popcorn and a drink.
Later, I went to a concert so the day wouldn’t feel completely wasted and because it happened to be the only night the show was on. Modern Malaysian music was the theme. It might not have been my thing, but I enjoyed watching the musicians perform. Also, I was the only person in the audience, so at least it wasn’t just me who wasn’t a big fan!
