After two days of trekking through the Gunung Leuser rainforest and waking up to one of the best views imaginable, it was time to return to Bukit Lawang. But first, we still had to climb down the mountain. This trip was far from ordinary — instead of hiking back, we returned to Bukit Lawang in style.
We walked down to the river, where a man was waiting with a few tires. That’s how we made our way back — floating downstream through the rainforest, passing waterfalls along the way. After spending three full days immersed in the jungle and encountering so many Orangutans, it felt like a perfect ending to an unforgettable adventure. The trip was worth every bit of effort and every single penny. Bukit Lawang is truly one of the most incredible places I’ve visited in Indonesia.
Return to Bukit Lawang
Back in town, I wanted to get some work done, especially since I’ll be back in Australia in just a few weeks. I still need to line up a job, and my money is running low. I’m not stressed, but I’d like to be prepared. Unfortunately, being in the middle of a rainforest has its downsides — the town had no electricity because of an approaching storm. Apparently, that happens quite often here.
So instead, I bought a few beers and enjoyed the storm from my balcony. This one was powerful enough that I managed to capture it on camera. Enjoy the show, haha!
