From Kuta in Bali to Tuk-Tuk in Sumatra—it has been an long journey. In total, I spent over 12 hours in transit. My flight out of Bali departed just before midnight, and I arrived somewhere in the middle of the night at Kuala Lumpur airport.
During my stopover, I didn’t have enough time to sleep, but I needed to take care of something important. To make sure that I wouldn’t be paying for a visa extension in Indonesia and secure another free 30-day visa, I needed to pass through border control. Upon arrival, I entered Malaysia, turned around, and got back into the airport.
By morning, my flight to Medan had departed, and I took a taxi into the Medan city centre. . After handling my paperwork the day before, I booked a private car to Parapat and got onto the ferry heading to Tuk-Tuk.
Tuk-Tuk
First things first, and once I arrived, I walked to my staying place to drop my backpack. There are no hostels here, so I’m sleeping in a private cabin in some forestry. Despite not sleeping during the night, I didn’t feel like resting early. I ended yesterday and started today on no sleep, with only a shower in between. At least I felt refreshed—a welcome feeling after an all-night flight.
Tuk-Tuk locates on Samosir, which is an island in Lake Toba. The scenery here is stunning, and I’m eager to explore it—though that will have to wait for the coming days. With limited time available today, I opted to wander around my accommodation. The garden leads directly to Lake Toba, making it easy to stroll along the lakeside. I couldn’t be happier with the setting.
