The highly acidic volcanic White Crater | Bandung | Vlog 128

It is going to be a busy day for me today in Bandung. We are making a road trip to Central Java! I liked yesterday’s idea of driving around and seeing the greater area. Besides, I found plenty of things that I want to see. I already asked for a driver yesterday evening. Therefore I got picked up early this morning as most of my destinations are multiple hours away.

It will be a long time to sit on the back of a scooter, but that also means exploring the deeper regions of Indonesia, wherein, in other circumstances, I would never be able to go. In addition, the destinations on my itinerary are just guidelines, and the driving in between counts. I am out and about and learning everything about Indonesia by seeing all the small towns and nature!

A Central Java Road Trip:

The first few stops on my Central Java road trip were visiting the most extensive tea leaves plantations in the greater area. I felt terrible for my driver that he had to wait every time I wanted to explore the fields. But then, on the other side, he was happy that he didn’t have to find small rides over the whole day and just had one big job.

Afterwards, we went a little higher into the mountains. Because of all the volcanic activity in Java, there are plenty of hot springs here. The water gets heated up underground, comes up, and the pools are perfect for swimming and are healthy on the skin. My driver even took me to different hot springs than planned. The ones on my itinerary were famous, but he said there are better ones that only the locals know! Way to go!

About 50km south of Bandung, you will find the famous White Crater. The Kawah Putih site, as referred to by the locals, is about 2430 meters above sea level and has a lake in the volcanic crater. However, it differs from a lake you want to swim in. The lake is highly acidic. Depending on the sulphur level, the colour switched between blue, white and green, or a combination of those three. It was awe-inspiring to be there on top of the volcano! A road trip in Central Java, surrounded by volcanic activity, wouldn’t be the same if I didn’t end up on top of a volcano. But, wow, that smell gets into your nose and is probably one I will never forget.
