Today marks my three months anniversary on this trip. An important thing that I’ve learned throughout those months is that long-term travel slowly changes how everything feels. Meeting new people and discovering new places every single day is exciting, but it can also become exhausting, which makes slowing down essential from time to time. Staying in one place for a while brings back a sense of community, and proper rest only comes when listening to what the body and mind need, instead of forcing the next thing. On a long journey, there is always enough time to explore because the length of each stop matters less when the whole adventure is open-ended. This trip is my trip, and heading home will simply depend on when it feels right to return.
Three months anniversary
That intro sounds a lot more serious than the day itself actually was. The fun already started yesterday, when some plans for today took shape, and scrapping those plans turned out to make the day even better. The hostel has a list of ten things you “must” see in Hervey Bay, so two girls and I decided to work our way through it. In reality, the list did not stand a chance: the moment we found the first playground, we completely forgot about everything else.
Later we learned that there are accessible playgrounds and water parks all along the coast. No tourism today, but let the inner child come out -day! Instead of ticking off tourist sights, it became a day dedicated to letting the inner child run the show, trying to visit every playground in Hervey Bay. The weather helped as well; it was the kind of day that feels made for being outside, laughing, and not taking anything too seriously. There was no rush and no pressure, just moving from one playground to the next and enjoying how simple happiness can be.
There is no inner child
The best part is that it never really feels like “becoming” a child again. Deep down, that kid is still there, and this kind of travelling is a way to give it space. A settled life will come later; for now, this journey is about exploring, playing, and figuring things out one stop at a time. So here’s to a happy three months anniversary on this trip and to many more days that feel just as free and light-hearted.
