My hostel is better than yours! | Canberra | Vlog 112

Travelling overnight definitely has its pros and cons. On one hand, it saves a lot of time and is usually cheaper (not that it matters since I already paid for 3 months of bus travel). On the other hand, I’m also pretty exhausted when I reach my destination. This time, it was worth it, though. We had a rest stop in the middle of the night, which allowed me to call home and be part of their Eastern celebrations! Yes, I left just after Christmas and I’m suddenly calling home for Eastern..

The sleep deprivation didn’t bother me much, as I was excited to reach Canberra. While switching buses, I even caught a brief morning glimpse of Sydney! It’s sometimes just part of travelling, and the distance between Coffs Harbour and Sydney would have meant losing a whole day.

Canberra

Canberra wouldn’t be the capital of Australia if the Australians didn’t fill it with national museums. As it suits Australia perfectly, they are all free to visit. Not wasting any time, I dropped my backpack at the hostel and headed for my first stop on the itinerary—the national museum of Australia, a large museum showcasing all the details of Australia. It was well worth the visit, and in retrospect, I could have spent the entire day there. Because the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) wouldn’t be open on the other days of my trip, I had to combine both visits today.

It was a fantastic first day in Canberra, and I had planned to explore the nightlife in the evening. Unfortunately, that part of my itinerary fell through because it started to rain. My hostel—the only hostel and therefore my only option—has a swimming pool and sauna included. Not bad for a hostel! So I headed back and had the evening to myself. Alternating between the sauna, the swimming pool, and the jacuzzi, I can’t complain much. Happy Easter!
