It has been a while since I posted some updates on my website. Apart from my first big hike at the Great Ocean Road, there was less daily excitement to make videos. Besides, after travelling and making daily blogs and vlogs for six months, I settled in Melbourne to have a more consistent life again.
Now, please don’t read me wrong; it’s not that I didn’t have a great time; living in Melbourne was fantastic. I spent the entire time living and working in a hostel in the middle of the CBD. What an incredible and exciting experience that was. There is always something going on in the hostel or the city. Besides, so many people always come and go, so you always get to meet new people.
Unfortunately, after recording and editing so many videos in the first six months, I only sometimes felt like recording everything that was going on. It’s impossible to get the ongoing atmosphere of daily hostel life captured in videos. There is too much to capture; it’s a lifestyle, not a trip. I would be recording all the time to make sure I caught everything. Luckily, I did make some videos and put them together.
How I started editing this video
I recently moved from Melbourne to King Island to finish my regional Australian work. Because of our bar in the hostel basement, I was low on money anyway. While I love living in Melbourne and cities in general, I could use a little break from busy city life for a while.
On King Island, though, it was amazing to come home after work and watch some Melbourne videos. The karaoke nights in the hostel, the daily atmosphere, the side trips and even my mother coming over. (I missed her wedding by deciding to travel longer, so they came to see me on their honeymoon). All these amazing things I did and saw, and all the fantastic people I met. Even the underpaying job I had as a barista for six weeks was suddenly a great experience and memory to look back on.
So, after spending evenings going over my content, I started putting together a video again. And, yes, here it is, my little adventure in Melbourne. A short but powerful video with all the small bits I got to record in the last months. The video contains a little bit of everything; Some side trips, some karaoke nights and some of the essential people while living in Melbourne. As a result, I also would like to thank everybody who made this experience so wonderful. It has been a great time, and I can’t wait to be back soon. Let’s now see what this King Island experience has to offer me!
