Walking the Great Ocean Walk | Hitch-hiking back to Melbourne | Vlog 9

There was one thing that we didn’t think about before starting this hike. All our preparation went into the walk itself, but there was no plan afterwards. Problems for after the hike, we thought. But then, it is after the walk, and here we are! How are we getting back to our hostel in Melbourne? We charged our phones at the campsite and found some buses back to the city. But then, after hitchhiking to Port Campbell yesterday, we decided to give it a go on our way to Melbourne. Busses are too convenient; we are on a trip and have extra days. It is okay if we don’t make it back today. The worst thing that can happen is we have to camp again, so that’s not too bad. Worth the shot!

It was raining, but we didn’t care. The adventure that we got ourselves into was more important. We had just spent the last week outside, so we were prepared for this weather. It was funny hitchhiking back. Yesterday we waited so long for a ride from the Twelve Apostles to Port Campbell, and now we are going the opposite way again. But, we made it, at least back to the Twelve Apostles.

Getting a ride back to Apollo Bay from the Twelve Apostles was easy. We had lunch here and had some funny conversations about the past week. We spent eight days walking from here to the Apostles, but it only took an hour to drive that distance back. Ultimately, we will have done both; walking and driving it! #goals

From Apollo Bay, it was hard to get back to Melbourne. We waited for hours in the rain. But we didn’t want to give up, and suddenly we got fortunate anyways. A guy was driving straight to one of the northern suburbs of Melbourne, so from there, it would only be a train back to the CBD. We paid him some money for the fuel, as we drove for more than 4 hours. On the way, we passed an Ikea. The perfect place for some dinner after a long day. Of course, we couldn’t resist walking through Ikea with our backpacks. Afterwards, we took a train to the CBD and returned to Melbourne and our hostel. That’s it for now. What a trip, I can’t do anything more than love the last nine days. It was perfect!
