Walking the Great Ocean Walk | Elliot Ridge to Blanket Bay | Vlog 2

Day two of the Great Ocean walk and our night was a little adventure. Exhausted from our first day, we were happily ready to bed early. But then suddenly we heard all these strange noises from the forest. At first, we thought wild swine were making the noise, and we got out of the tent, ready to defend ourselves. But it turned out to be the noise that koalas make. Koalas surrounded us everywhere, but we couldn’t see them as it was dark. All good, nothing wrong, but our plan to wake up early in the morning fell apart. We slept in, had a long breakfast and waited for the rain to be over. But we got there and started our 12km hike to Blanket Bay.

The sadness of being unable to see the koalas at night was unnecessary. Once daylight, we could see them everywhere; we just had to look up and find them in the threes. It was good because the walk took us through some fire trails in the forest, which wasn’t that exciting. It would have been alright in good weather, but it was very muddy and dark. A welcomed break from busy Melbourne life! Not that we didn’t enjoy ourselves, but it was good to be out and walk.

We could sometimes see the ocean through the trees when we got closer to Blanket Bay. But, by the time we made it to Blanket Bay, it was, unfortunately, getting dark. I also slipped on the stairs because I was too focused on filming the incredible views. I’ll make sure to put that fall from Jesse’s perspective in the after-movie! A little walk over the beach and in the evening we had dinner and talks with the other walkers at the campsite. Our bodies were sore at the end of a great day, but that’s a detail. We are having too much fun to care!
