I’ve missed my bus due to a zoo | Rockhampton | Vlog 83

Today is my last day in Rockhampton, and I’ve had an amazing time! Over the past two days, I’ve explored all the main attractions, and after purchasing hiking poles, I completed a 24km hike yesterday. Many people claimed this place wasn’t worth visiting, but they’ve never actually been here—they were simply repeating what other travellers had said.

Before moving on, I’m visiting the Rockhampton Zoo today. First, it’s free! Second, since I haven’t had any luck spotting koalas on Magnetic Island, I’m hoping to see one here. Yes, it’s not quite the same as seeing them in the wild, but a free zoo is still a fantastic opportunity. I believe all zoos should be free—it should be a fundamental right for everyone to learn about and observe animals.

Rockhampton Zoo

Well, the Rockhampton Zoo was absolutely fantastic! However, I ended up missing my bus because I spent too much time there. Having already been in Rockhampton for three days, I was determined to reach my next destination today: Agnes Water, here I come! Since the next bus wasn’t until tomorrow, I decided to try hitchhiking.

Unfortunately, I didn’t make it to Agnes Water, but I did reach Gladstone. While Gladstone wasn’t on my original itinerary, arriving here gave me the opportunity to explore somewhere more off the beaten path. Fortunately, there’s a hostel where I’m staying for the night. It’s not a typical traveller’s hostel, but rather a working hostel where backpackers who work in the area live together. After dropping off my backpack, I went for a walk around the harbour.

Back at the hostel, the atmosphere is truly unique. It’s made me reconsider the possibility of working in Australia for a while—I’m really enjoying these experiences right now. But enough of the serious stuff for today! We’re about to fully-watch the new season of Black Mirror. I haven’t had access to a television in ages, so I’m excited to watch the entire season in one go! 😀
