I needed time out of the city! | The Mekong Delta Ben Tre | Vlog 21

After yesterday’s trip to the Cu Chi tunnels, I wanted to see more things outside Ho Chi Minh City. I love cities with all my heart but want to explore more of the countryside now. Thinking about it, I went from city to city the whole time, so I guess that after almost three weeks, it is time for a change—a change to more countryside. I’m still at the beginning of my trip, so still trying to set the balances. Here we go, and today my story continues in Ben Tre. It is the capital of the greater Mekong Delta region, which originates around the Mekong River, about 100 kilometres south of Saigon.

The Mekong Delta

The Mekong Delta region locates in the southwest of Vietnam. The River is the beating heart of this area and empties into the sea through distributaries. It is essential for agri- and aquaculture in the region and transport and fishing. They discovered over 1000 animal species living in the River. Therefore it’s a natural biological treasure trove.

I woke up early in the morning because I also wanted to make many stops there. Besides a temple and a palace to visit, I saw gigantic statues. They are huge; they might not look like it in the video, but they are about twice the size you imagine!

While exploring the Mekong Delta, they put a snake around my neck. Probably the first tourist trap I fell for, as they asked me to pay later. I didn’t mind; it was worth the experience. I had a boat tour in the Mekong delta on one of the original old boats to finish the day. Dinner was, of course, fresh fish that they caught in the area. What else?
