Travel Video: Melbourne (living abroad in Australia)

It’s been two months since Jesse and I escaped busy Melbourne life for our first big hike — the epic Great Ocean Walk. After six months of non-stop travelling and daily blogs and vlogs, settling into Melbourne felt like hitting pause. Life slowed down, but the city buzz never really stopped — a hostel full of new faces, endless city energy, and that constant hum of opportunity.

Living in the heart of the CBD at United Backpackers was pure magic. A massive kitchen, basement bar with karaoke nights, and people from everywhere coming and going — it was impossible to be bored. But capturing that raw, daily vibe on camera? Tricky. Hostel life isn’t a “trip” with highlights; it’s a lifestyle that unfolds 24/7. I grabbed snippets when I could — side adventures, late-night laughs, even my mum visiting on her honeymoon (after I missed her wedding back home).

From Chaos to Compilation

Fast-forward: farm work hunting after the hike didn’t go smoothly. (If you are not sure what i’m talking about, read: three months in Melbourne!) Six more weeks in Melbourne passed in a blur of hostel shifts, rejected offers from dodgy spots, and scraping by on zero cash again. Then, during a kitchen shift, someone mentioned they’d just left a cheesemaking gig on King Island. Details in hand, I booked a flight with my last dollars and landed on this remote Tasmanian gem — first crashing with a Ukrainian guy, then sharing a house with three Germans. King Island Dairy life (hello, real cheese factory work!) counts toward that second-year visa, and the slower pace with salty sea air was exactly the reset I needed after big-city life.

Nights off here meant digging into old Melbourne footage. Karaoke belters, tram rides to side trips, barista shifts (underpaid but full of stories), and those golden moments with hostel mates — even the grind turned nostalgic. So I pieced it together into this throwback video: a short, punchy love letter to my Melbourne chapter. It’s got the chaos, the connections, and the quiet wins that made it unforgettable.

Living in Melbourne – Australia

A huge shoutout to everyone who made those months epic — hostel crew, bar buddies, and random connections that felt like family. Melbourne tested me, filled me up, and launched me here to King Island. Can’t wait to return someday. What’s next on this island? Stay tuned!
