This is how I went diving for the first time on the Great Barrier Reef | Vlog 66

Day 66 of my world trip can go into (my personal) history books as the first official day diving at sea! No more Fitzroy Island or swimming pool in Cairns for me. This time, we are on the boat getting ourselves out to some of the best spots on the Great Barrier Reef! This incredible experience was the primary goal of starting these dive lessons in the first place.

I can’t believe I’m diving on the Great Barrier Reef now. Back in Belgium, these things always seemed so far away and nearly impossible to accomplish. But here I am, and I love it.

Thinking back about this day brought me into a very reflective atmosphere. It is not just the Great Barrier Reef. This travelling adventure has been fantastic. I’m only a little more than two months in, and it has been so good. From the temples and rainforests in Asia, spread over five different countries, to a classic road trip along the western coast of Australia to diving on the east coast.

Cairns is only the beginning; I haven’t even started getting to Sydney yet. It is getting better and better, that’s for sure! Just imagine what else is to follow after this adventure.

Because I’m still in training, I bumped into the same problem as yesterday. The footage in the video is not from the actual dives yet. To give our bodies some rest from being underwater, we sometimes also make snorkel trips where I’m allowed to take my camera!

It’s a confronting thing to be in the ocean. It makes you feel small to be surrounded by endless water. Only to wonder about everything that is going on underneath you! Luckily, the water is, on average, 22 degrees Celcius, so it feels fantastic! Our trips go a fair bit away from the boat, and the ship is sometimes really far away when you come back up.
