I suddenly became a tour guide | Cameron Highlands | Vlog 177

I was supposed to leave the Cameron Highlands this morning, but since some new people arrived at the hostel yesterday, I decided to stay one more day. Before flying to Melbourne, I’d planned two days in Kuala Lumpur, but I could easily push that down to one — so I did.

The new arrivals were eager to go hiking, and since I’d already completed all ten of the jungle trails over the past few days, they asked me to guide them. In the end, they hadn’t originally come here for the hikes — they were just inspired after hearing me talk about them and realizing I could show them the way. But if I can contribute something positive to someone else’s travels, I’m more than happy to do it. Plus, this meant I’d have a travel companion for my next destination.

All ten jungle tracks?

Of course, there wasn’t time to complete all ten in a single day, but I could take them along the best ones. To mix things up, we did them the opposite way — hitchhiking to one of the trail endpoints and then walking back to town. I didn’t expect our ride to be a truck with six people in the back, but that’s exactly what happened!

If you’ve ever seen one of those hiking memes on Facebook where someone keeps saying, “We’re almost there!” or “It’s just over the next hill,” that was definitely me today. I was fitter than most of the group, but everyone had a great time — and that’s what counts.

Tomorrow, I’m finally leaving the Cameron Highlands, this time with Sarah, a girl from Belgium. Funny enough, she’s one of the first Belgians I’ve met in the past six months — and the first one I’ll actually travel with. Curious about what comes next? You can read all about it in the following posts.
