Today, I’m from The Netherlands | Sydney | Vlog 117 and 118

Exploring Sydney wouldn’t be the same without allowing time for spontaneous wandering. While there are countless things to see and visit—or sometimes nothing at all—these final days in Australia feel different. There’s no need to rush through everything.

The key to enjoying Sydney? Taking a relaxed approach. After three months in Australia, it’s been quite the adventure already—remarkable enough to warrant a more leisurely pace in my final week. Interestingly, this has nothing to do with exploring Sydney itself, but I only brought a phone and a tablet when I left Belgium. Yes, all these blogs and vlogs are created on those devices. So today, I went out and bought myself a laptop. It feels a bit silly since I have a perfectly good laptop at home, but with a longer itinerary and a working holiday ahead, I need one! I’m going to start my working holiday with barely any money left, but that’s a future Yentl’s problem.

Sydney or the Netherlands?

Many Dutch people are living in Sydney. So, with a public holiday back home in the Netherlands and a chance encounter with two Dutch girls at the hostel, I went out for the evening as a proper Dutchman. It was a wonderful night—singing plenty of Dutch songs, enjoying Dutch food, and chatting with our Northern Neighbours all evening!

The past two days have been relaxed yet wonderful, and besides visiting some of the attractions and doing main sightseeing, the most memorable activity was probably Queen’s Day. I was seeking some company for a trip to the mountains. Perfect timing! Tomorrow, I’ll be heading to the Blue Mountains with these same girls as they haven’t been yet either.

These last few days have been treating me exceptionally well—and so has the weather. However, winter is slowly approaching Australia, and the temperature difference between a couple of months ago when I was up north is quite noticeable compared to now. Silly me thought it was always 40 degrees in Australia, haha! Fortunately, I’m heading to Indonesia soon.
