About travelling from Tuk-Tuk to Berastagi and leaving my first destination in Sumatra behind.
The past five days have been incredible and included everything I had hoped for. It was a remarkable combination of spending quality time with myself, exploring the surroundings, and feeling grateful for everything this adventure has given me.
Back in Belgium, I imagined this trip would be good, but I could not have foreseen how much it would allow me to grow. It unfolded very differently from any of my European trips, and I suddenly find myself exploring some hidden corners of the world. If this is what five months of travelling does, then a full year of working and living in Australia will be unimaginable.
Travelling to Berastagi:
Talking about Australia, I took a bus from Tuk-Tuk to the other side of Samosir, where I caught a six-hour transport to Berastagi. That gave me enough time to book my flight to Australia. I will arrive on the first of July to start my working holiday visa, and I chose Melbourne as my starting point because of its fantastic music scene and because it is still new territory for me. The only catch is that I need to fly out of Kuala Lumpur, so I have to make sure to get back there in the following weeks, which feels a bit stressful but also helps me plan a longer-term itinerary.
Arriving in Berastagi, I was tired, and it was already late in the afternoon. I first dropped my backpack at my homestay and then headed out to explore. After wandering around randomly, I eventually reached the city centre, where there were lots of people. Following the moving crowd, I stumbled upon a market and the local fair—a fantastic way to kick off my time in Berastagi. I am ready for this!
