Have we met before? | Sentosa Island | Singapore | Vlog 34

Yesterday was about the Marina of Singapore and the Gardens By The Bay. Today it will be all about Sentosa Island. But first, I need to visit the Merlion. This half-fish and half-lion statue is the official mascot of Singapore. It stands on the other side of the gardens and is a must-do. The fish body represents the origin of Singapore as a fishing village. On the other side, the lion comes from the city’s original name, Singapura, meaning lion city. It has become a trademarked symbol since 1966.

Sentosa Island

Sentosa Island is also known as just Sentosa. It’s an island off the southern coast of Singapore‘s main island, separated by a channel of water, the Keppel Harbour. Before it became a popular tourist destination, it got used as a British military base and a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp afterwards.

Attractions on the island include a 2km long beach, Madame Tussaud, golf courses and the Resorts World Sentosa, which provides space for the Universal Studios in Singapore. Last year, it got widely known for being the 2018 North Korea, the United States and Singapore Summit location where the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un and the U.S. president, Donald Trump, had the first-ever meeting of those two nations.

Besides Universal studios, I also ran into my next Hard Rock Cafe! It will be the last one for a while; only two are in Australia. But that wasn’t the highlight today.

I saw Thea again! Yes, the German backpacker that I saw two times before now. We went to China Town together (it seems that we always go to China Town, haha) to eat the typical red crabs of Singapore! We did the Sticky Waterfalls in Chiang Mai together and met each other in Kuala Lumpur as well. It’s crazy because we never plan this and have a similar travel itinerary.
