I’m travelling in the land down under! | Perth City | Australia | Vlog 38

After a two-day break from my usual travel routine, I’m starting my first day exploring Perth! Yesterday, I had a sneak peek as my friends from Belgium showed me some places. It was good to see them, but it was different; I’m so used to being a solo traveller that it’s hard to keep up with other people’s plans. In saying that, it was fantastic seeing some friends, I know from Belgium! And, If anyone wants to come and visit me, you are more than welcome! Let me know when and where, and we will figure something out!

Perth: Elizabeth Quay

It’s super exciting to be in Western Australia, and I started the day by checking out the Elizabeth Quay! Sydney has the Opera House (which I’m sure will make my website in a couple of weeks), and Perth has the Quay. Its most notable landmark is the 29m high, Spanda. A public artwork by the Australian-born artist Christian de Vietri. Its size would differ from the Opera House, but I like the design. The structure has only been here since January 2016, a part of the Perth International Arts Festival. Also worth mentioning is the Quay bridge on the other side; I love the shapes of the bridge, and it gives some incredible city views.

The original plan for today was to walk along the coastline of the Swan River. My goals aren’t set; getting lost in a city is the best, most fun, and favourite way to explore them. Instead, I ended up in many different alleys, galleries, libraries and museums.

Other travellers in the hostel advised me to go back at night to check out all the bridges. It was great advice, as all bridges are beautifully lit at night. Afterwards, I returned to the hostel and spent the evening playing chess. I’m not an expert, but neither were they, so that worked well.
