It’s already my fifth day in Sumatra. I can’t believe how fast time is flying. Besides, I’ve spent quite some time in Indonesia, coming here randomly after finding a banknote in Australia. I made a Samosir road trip yesterday to see the island a little closer. I only saw half of the things on my itinerary though. Consequently, I’m making another trip today to see the rest of the island and explore more of Samosir’s surroundings. It’s a beautiful place, with mountains surrounding the lake.
The surroundings of Samosir:
It’s been a while since I last spent time hiking. In Java and Bali, I went everywhere on a motorbike, which significantly changed my travels compared to Australia. Hiring a motorbike is quite affordable and allows me to see more in a shorter time. In addition, my knee has suffered a lot over the past weeks as I badly hurt it in my Banyuwangi scooter accident. Waking up this morning, I felt it was time to walk again. Instead of heading to some waterfalls, I found the perfect place to hike in the afternoon.
The hike sounds straightforward, but just like yesterday, I need to reach the other side of the island. Moreover, since I’m exploring the surroundings of Samosir, I’m leaving the island via the other side—the only place with a bridge. Along with some side trips, my main destination is Bukit Holbung Samosir, a mountain offering impressive views over Lake Toba and its surroundings.
Of course, it requires a long drive that includes dirt tracks to reach the start, followed by a lengthy walk to the viewing point. But my life is all about travelling now, and it’s the best feeling in the world—knowing that these adventures are the only thing to worry about. After my walk, I took the other route off the island since I’d already driven the previous road. Although this side is twice as long, I completed a full loop around the island. #goals
