The ’60s and 70’s Night was an absolute smash hit—far exceeding every expectation! Currie, King Island’s main town, transformed into a time machine for one unforgettable evening, with a massive turnout spanning every generation of King Island locals. Grandparents reminiscing about their youth danced alongside kids discovering disco for the first time, while farmers, dairy workers, teachers, and tourists all mingled under one groovy roof. The atmosphere felt electric from the moment doors opened!
People went all out with their outfits, turning the Club into a living jukebox cover shoot. We’re talking perfect ’60s mod dresses with matching beehives, full-on ’70s disco divas dripping in gold lamé and platform shoes. The theme wasn’t just followed; it was celebrated with creativity that made every entrance a mini fashion show. Best-dressed prizes went to well-deserved winners, but honestly everyone brought their A-game!
Non-Stop Music Marathon
Four incredible music acts kept the energy soaring from 7 PM through late night. As the musician who performed in three of them (backing Lucie, jamming with The Lanky’s, then headlining with Yentl As Anything), I barely caught my breath between sets! No time for dancing when you’re laying down those grooves, but playing what I love most to the happiest crowd imaginable more than made up for it.
Rusty Falcon opened strong, warming up the room with their signature island sound. Lucie brought fresh energy as the new artist on the scene—watching her shine with live band backing felt special. The Lanky’s family magic followed, blending their dairy farm warmth with tight harmonies everyone knows by heart. Then Yentl As Anything closed with a bang—our biggest hometown show yet, feeding off that crowd.
Massive Thanks to Everyone Involved
Huge thanks to Michael Laskey for the phenomenal photography—his shots capture every harmony-soaked smile, and legendary moment from the night! Deep gratitude to The Club Currie for hosting the perfect retro palace, Wade Roskam for flawless sound engineering, all four incredible acts who made it unforgettable, and every single person who dressed up, danced, sang, and clapped to make this ’60s/70’s Night pure magic.
