Music Theory Tests:
When I was teaching at the music academy in Zaventem, Belgium, they were so excited about how I built my exercises that they left me in charge of that year’s exams. I even got offered a permanent job there, but I couldn’t take it because I started travelling a few months later. After publishing the exercises on the Music Theory page earlier, I’m happy to post those music theory tests today. The tests recap the practices on both beginner and intermediate levels. If you filled in the trial but have nobody to check it, feel free to reach out on the contact page, and I’ll review it and send it back.
Music theory Test for Beginners:
The music theory test for beginners starts quickly with an exercise where students must name the notes. Furthermore, in the second exercise, we connect the given music notes with the correct name and the accompanying rest. To finish the first page, we search for the proper interval name. The second page focuses more on rhythms. In the first two exercises, we must add bars in 2/4 and 3/4. In the last exercise, we fill the circles with the proper rest.
Music theory Test for Intermediate Students:
The music theory tests for intermediate students start with two bar lines exercises. The first exercise is in 4/4, and the second is in 6/8. Afterwards, three chords are given, and we have to locate the major or minor chords. An interval is written down in exercise four, and the correct name is required. I suggest writing the notes in between down and naming the half and whole notes. At the end of this test, we focus on key signatures. Two melodies are looking for the right tonalities. Afterwards, the tonalities are written down, but the key signatures are left open, and to finish the test, we do the opposite. A key signature is written in the lines, and we are searching for the accompanying major and minor tonality. Good luck!
About me:
Over the past few years, I have taught music theory at various music schools in both Australia and Belgium. During these times, I’ve put plenty of different exercises on paper. This way, my students could practise at home and in the music lessons themselves. I’ve decided to put those exercises together to publish them here in the education section of my website. Over time, I lost many of them, but here is what was still on my online clouds. Besides that, my students can find them here if they want extra practice. It’s also downloadable for anyone. These exercises will be helpful to anyone in search of some music theory for intermediate students’ activities.
